This will be a pretty SEAMC (South East Asia Math Competition) based report, as the hotel was basically themed for the event during our stay. SEAMC is a maths competition for people aged 14 and under, and it was a great way for me to polish up some math skills, meet some new friends, and sneak in a trip report along the way. I’m hopefully/probably going to be able to be one of the select six in SEAMCPlus in Jakarta next year, so stay tuned.
We were bussed to the hotel in a SEAMC bus, where I admired the scenery of Kuala Lumpur. It was a beautiful day, as shown in the below picture. The exterior of the hotel is pretty modern, nice, and in many ways inviting.

The lobby was a great hangout space, and it was airy and well designed, if not slightly dated. As the “boys-not-allowed-into-girl’s-rooms rule” was, as usual, in effect, we ended up hanging out in the lobby for quite a bit of time.

We were greeted by SEAMC staff who gave us our welcome packages for the math competition.

The lounge area was called “Flutes” – but I didn’t see anything being served there, or anything wrong with us hanging out there, for that matter.

The friendly receptionist checked us in really quickly, and I was originally assigned room 1514, a superior room located on the 15th floor.
The hallways were slightly dated, and kind of stained – we didn’t spend much time there, especially with a grumpy old man in one of the corner suites for the duration of our stay. A little noise made him really pissed off.

My roommate, Jake, and I both had a shock when we saw what was in store (no, Jake wasn’t, it was just me).

Soon the supervisors came and said that the hotel messed up the room assignments, so we were given our real keys for our room.

While most of the doors were placed together, our room was a single door, positioned next to a corner suite on one side and a friend’s room on the other side.

The room featured an entryway, leading to the room straight ahead and a bathroom on the right. There was also a really nice open space to put luggages on the left side (right on this photo).

I felt like the room was decently stocked. There was a desk, two moderately comfortable beds, a flatscreen TV and a chaise longue by the side. I did feel like the colours were a little dated, but they felt comfortable on the eye and I did like the room.

The views out of both rooms were pretty nice – though I preferred the view to the second, sort of.

The toilet was pretty nicely designed, with a walk-in shower (with the annoying floors designed specifically for the water to flow into the rest of the bathroom, a sink and a toilet.

The bathroom was stocked with hotel amenities, which were fine.

Overall, I thought the room was nicely designed for a business hotel, and more than sufficient for a three day stay.
During the hotel, we took advantage of the free breakfast provided in our rate. The spread was fine, but it wasn’t top notch by any standards. However, I’m not sure where my photos of the spread went.
Given that the pictures are on one of my old phones that takes around a few hours to charge to 5% and it’s out of battery completely, I’ll post these later.
We didn’t use any of the hotel’s facilities, but there’s a pool, which was blocked off for the teachers during our stay.

The hotel is also connected to the Midvalley Megamall, which we used throughout our stay. WiFi at the hotel was fine, but only connects three devices per room, so may be a mishap if you’re staying with a friend and both bring computers and phones.
Bottom Line
The Boulevard by St. Giles was a very nice business hotel that was sufficient for our stay. I wouldn’t use it at all for recreational purposes, but in terms of a business hotel, it’s fine. I definitely wouldn’t take this as a top choice due to the WiFi issue, though it definitely wouldn’t hinder me from attending another meeting at Kuala Lumpur.
