The best seats on Cathay Pacific’s 777-300ER business class

Hello from home! I’ve just been on a pretty whirlwind trip to London and Paris, and have tried out both configurations of Cathay Pacific’s 777-300ER – with and without first class.

I think I have a good idea on what the best seats are in Cathay Pacific business class on the 777-300ER, so here we go…

Without first class

Cathay Pacific has two cabins on the non-first class 777-300ER – a bigger cabin, which I was booked in, which features 26 seats in seven rows…

…and a smaller cabin with four rows (14 seats, given that there are no A and K seats in row 20 – I was only able to picture seats 20D and 20G).

If you’re travelling alone, I’d pick seat 11A or 11K, the latter of which I was sat in. It’s really private, there’s no one in front of you and there’s a little extra space by the wall which is all yours. It feels a little more private overall as there’s nothing in front – the headboards are a little too short for the average traveller to not see over it.

Seats 21A and 21K don’t have the “front of the plane” feel with extra (albeit tiny) recesses in front of you, but are still at the front of the cabin (which means there’s no one in front of you, so it feels private).

If you’re travelling with someone else, I’d pick seats 11D and 11G, which are seats that you can deplane faster on.

With first class

Cathay Pacific has a mini-cabin of two rows on the 777-300ER with first class, which I was seated in…

…and a huge cabin consisting of 45 seats across 11 rows, which the majority of the cabin is seated in (of course it seems like a no-brainer what to choose, but it’s not like you luck out every time).

If you’re travelling alone, 11A and 11K again are great seats, as they’re lodged right behind first class, being the first seats in the cabin.

But 11D (where I was) and 11G are also great seats. They’re private, there’s a nose camera to make up for the lack of a window…

…and the wall in front is flat (as opposed to curved like the other seats in every other cabin, as there’s not enough space to put one of those panels), meaning that there’s a ton of space to stretch your legs against the wall even during taxi, takeoff and landing (not that you can’t do that, except that you can actually put your feet on the wall if you want to, which feels great at times).

Of course that means they’re great seats for couples too.

What are your favourite seats on Cathay Pacific’s 777-300ER?

  1. Did you experience any problems with noise in seat 11D (w/ first class)? I read somewhere on SeatGuru that there were two closets/cabinets in front of 11D/G that the crew constantly accessed “every 7 minutes” throughout the flight. The wife and I will be flying in those seats in a few months, but am contemplating switching if noise is an issue. Thanks!

    1. @ Dez – No issues personally, but varies, I guess. In contrast the cupboard in front of my seat was accessed a few times in 11K on the outbound without first class.

      1. Late reply, but we did our trip in January and unfortunately we didn’t have the best experience. 11D and 11G were in a great location, but the crew was constantly accessing the cabinets in front of us. It was hard to sleep without being awoken by some sort of noise either from the cabinets or the proximal galley around every 15-20 mins. Granted, ours was a full flight in terms of all first and business seats, so YMMV

  2. Hey – I just flew in 11D with FC configuration and LOVED the fact that it did not have any of those “curved” walls and was flat in front instead. Did you notice if 11D/G or 20D/G had it on the configuration without FC?

    1. @ Peter – Nope, both of the aforementioned seats have curved consoles in front for extra crew storage space, so you struck lucky.

      1. Bummer! Can’t believe I stumbled on the only seat in Cathay with that bonus. I loved it because I’m 6’2″ and could sleep on my side with my knees poking out that opening. The normal seat doesn’t allow this.

        Thanks for the response!
