I arrived at the airport at 9:45 AM in anticipation of my flight departing at 12:45 PM. For some reason, group check-in requires people to be at the airport way early – though as an aviation enthusiast, I’m not complaining!

A friend kindly guested me into the SkyTeam Lounge. While I was hoping to get another review with pictures, though unfortunately, the lounge was jam-packed this time, so I passed. If you’re looking for a review of the lounge, here’s a review I wrote earlier in the year.

As I briefly explained during my time in Myanmar last year, our school brings us on trips all around Asia and Oceania once a year, as part of our Creativity Action Service program (the name’s changing, as it’s completely pointless, but overall I think it’s a really useful program). This year I decided to choose Fujian as my first choice – I didn’t really think I’d change my life like I did last year, but I was willing to immerse in some culture pretty close to Hong Kong.

R.I.P. Dragonair, Welcome Cathay Dragon

I’ll keep this brief because of the work I need to get done, but as of yesterday, November 21st, the brand Dragonair has officially ceased to exist. From now on, this brand will be known as Cathay Dragon.

5 Pictures of Dragonair A320 Economy Class

Nihao from Xiamen! Today I flew from Hong Kong to Xiamen on Dragonair’s A320 (I’d call it Cathay Dragon, but the formal change is next Monday). I lucked out on one of Dragonair’s refurbished planes, so I may be one of the first to review Dragonair’s refurbished A320 on the internet.

Unfortunately the WiFi where I’m staying is lacking, so five pictures are going to take me the night. Of course, when I get back to WiFi-equipped Hong Kong, a full trip report will be to follow.

Next Up: Cathay Dragon A320 Economy Class!

So far I think I have a rather good understanding of the Cathay Pacific Group’s offerings. I’ve done Cathay Pacific’s regional economy, regional business, longhaul business, longhaul economy, premium economy, and their A350 business class, as well as Dragonair/Cathay Dragon’s economy and business class on their A330, and their economy class on the A321.

img_2543Cathay Pacific/Dragonair’s economy class is actually currently my favourite economy product in the sky

I’ve also been extensively writing about the product that I haven’t even seen before in person, Dragonair’s A320 economy product. I’ve been dying to try it for a year and a half now, given that there are literally zero reviews of the product up on the Internet.

Cathay Pacific’s New Premium Cabin Award Tiers

While these days I’m mostly focused on cheap business class award tickets, my parents mainly use Asia Miles to redeem their tickets whenever possible. It isn’t the best use of miles, but my parents didn’t know much about them when they first used Asia Miles, and they have a whole stash of them now, and…

DSCF4978It may be harder long term to save up Asia Miles for a Cathay Pacific business class seat, like this one on their A330

Review: Cathay Dragon 704 A320 Economy Class Hong Kong to Guilin

Around mid-May, I took a short trip with my school on a tour of Guilin and Yangshuo. Needless to say, I had an absolute blast during that week. Although we stayed at several hotels, I won’t be reviewing them as they weren’t really aspirational nor memorable. However, my flight from Hong Kong to Guilin was especially memorable, so I thought I’d review it sooner or later.

We checked in as a group. Although it was a long process, the ground staff helping us were really delightful to talk to. After a five-minute lunch which involved me stuffing McDonalds down my throat, we finally made our way to the remote stand where we were bussed to the aircraft. I didn’t get to take pictures of the aircraft as AVESCO staff are on the ground who strictly monitor and discourage picture taking.

We were welcomed by the really, really friendly Senior Purser as we boarded the flight.

Cathay Pacific Stops Service to Kuala Lumpur, Cathay Dragon Picks Up

Cathay Pacific’s long been flying to Kuala Lumpur. I’ve flown the route on Cathay Pacific’s A330, and while there’s nothing really special with the way they serve the route, it’s definitely one of Cathay Pacific’s more popular routes, with four flights a day.

While no A350s have been deployed on the route, Cathay Pacific presently operates A330s, 777-200s, 777-300s and A340s on the route.

We had trouble getting a taxi to the airport on the morning, and made it to the airport, to get into a long business class check-in queue. We were over by 7:10, so I had exactly 10 minutes to run over to this lounge, complete a picture tour, and still be one of the first onboard. I had vowed to check out this lounge and didn’t want to break my promise.

The lounge is (obviously) located near gate 16, near the SilverKris lounge.

Dragonair/Cathay Dragon A330 vs. A321 Economy Class – Which Is Better?

Happy new year from Hong Kong, where it hasn’t been more beautiful in more than a year!

image1 (1)

I’m flying tomorrow, though it looks like the clouds are back tomorrow, so I guess I’ll have to live with that.

Reader Billie sent me a Twitter message last night:

I have a meeting scheduled in Shanghai in mid-March and I want to get there on Dragonair economy. I have the choice of the A330 and the A321 on Dragonair, and you seem to have enjoyed both. Seats at the front and the back are all available on both flights. What should I take?

Now Billie has a point that I’ve actually thought of. While I’ve talked about it briefly in the past, I’ve never actually came to a conclusion. For your reference, here are the reviews I have on each product:
