Dragonair Rebrands as Cathay Dragon

I’m sorry if I’m really late posting this, but I had a lot to do this week. Consistently sleeping at 2am hasn’t been working towards my favour, so I’m looking for a good chunk of break time before I depart next Tuesday.

If you haven’t known already, Dragonair is rebranding as Cathay Dragon, for better system ties with Cathay Pacific.

So I’ve reviewed Dragonair quite a bit in the past, including but not limited to these flights:

My overall morale for these flights are “pretty good” – not all of them were as bad as my flight from Hong Kong to Beijing, but I can’t think of any flights I’ve enjoyed more than my business class flight from Fukuoka to Hong Kong, or even my economy class flight from Hong Kong to Yangon.

So that being said, it looks like I’m pleased with the new updates that Dragonair is making.

They’re retaining their seat in both cabins. While business class is just fine, I consider the economy seat one of the very best in the industry.

Mostly it’s just the aesthetic front, though it’s targeted at people associating Dragonair with Cathay Pacific, which apparently hasn’t happened in the past. Dragonair has access to most of Hong Kong’s services anyway, including their lounges as business class passengers.

BOTTOM LINE

I wonder how this affects the staff interpretation of Cathay Dragon’s brand identity.

I might go out of my way to try the new Cathay Dragon in the future, as their new livery starts rolling out in April 2016. I mean, props to the guy who predicted this THREE YEARS before it rolled out…
